Terrific volunteer opportunity for students and their families!

Part of the Greenbank School Council mandate is to work with parents and our community to enhance the development and educational experiences of our students.

I'm pleased to bring you this information about a community program which offers kids a chance to volunteer their time, participate in their community, and have fun.  Just for Kicks soccer program benefits all who participate!

Due to ongoing community support and the backing of the Ottawa Nepean Soccer Club, the JUST FOR KICKS special needs soccer program is beginning its fourth season this June. The program is expanding to include more players and a broader range of ages this year as demand continues to grow each season. Please consider being a part of this important initiative and volunteering for one or more practices. Many Greenbank and Knoxdale students are already regular volunteers and are gaining valuable leadership and team building skills. Grade 8 graduates can accrue volunteer hours toward their high school diploma.

WHEN: Thursdays from 6:307:30pm (starting June 18

WHERE: Trend Arlington field (right behind the school!)

WHAT: Volunteer opportunity to work with children ages 5-18 with developmental disabilities while they get active, have fun, and learn soccer-related skills.
Volunteers tailor activities to suit the intellectual and physical abilities of each child at a 1:1 volunteer to player ratio.

WHY: This program cannot function without volunteers on the field to support and guide the players.

Please note that given the needs of the players, we do not play in the rain.

Volunteers should show up 15 minutes prior to each practice. There is no need to sign up in advance.

If you or someone you know would like to be involved in this very worthwhile program, please contact the convener at shannonbagg@gmail.com to receive email updates.
